I have just read an interview to David Ferrer in a Spanish online newspaper where some details about the Davis Cup final are told.
For example this one about Ferrer’s comeback after losing the first two sets to Stepanek. Darren Cahill, Verdasco’s coach, texted Fernando during the match: ‘Tell David to play to Stepanek’s forehand’. Verdasco showed the sms to captain Albert Costa and to Rafa. “He’s right”, said Costa.
So Costa took David to the locker room after the second set and told Rafa to join them there. Ferrer was crying with wrath and disappointment and Costa asked Rafa to try to cheer him up. After Rafa’s cheerleading, Costa gave the piece of technical advice. And well, from that moment onwards the match was a different story.
